OccamSmart’s 8-Channel RF Concentrator and Uplink Protocol Analyzer for LoRaWAN Enables Easier LoRa Device Development

OccamSmart adds new hardware and software to its product line that allows for collection and analysis of LoRa and LoRaWAN packets, simplifying LoRa technology development.

TAMPA, Fla. –  February 22, 2018 – OccamSmart – Occam Technology Group’s family of LPWAN-focused IoT devices, released its 8-Channel RF Concentrator for LoRa-based networks, as well as a proprietary packet analyzer capable of utilizing industry standard tool Wireshark for LoRa packet analysis.

Companies in North America are slowly realizing the limitations and costs of Wi-Fi and cellular-based infrastructures when it comes to rolling out large-scale Internet of Things projects.  As an industry-leading LPWAN (Low Power Wide Area Network) technology with fast adoption in European markets, LoRa technology is now seeing increasing interest and growth in the North American region.

Traditionally, development for LoRa and LoRaWAN has been difficult due to a lack of professional development tools that extended beyond introductory technology demonstrator kits. Due to experiencing this first hand, Occam Technology Group, the company behind OccamSmart, created its own 8-Channel RF Concentrator, as well as a packet analyzer plugin for Wireshark, an industry standard RF analysis tool. Now, for the first time, the products have been made available for purchase under the OccamSmart family of products.

OccamSmart’s 8-Channel RF Concentrator delivers an easy-to-use solution for data communication in a long-range low power wireless network. Each device provides eight simultaneous fixed 125 kHz Bandwidth (BW) LoRa-based receive channels. In addition, there are two auxiliary channels for LoRa and FSK modulation. The concentrator comes in a small footprint aluminum chassis and can add LPWAN capabilities to any Windows-based computer by plugging the device into an available USB port. The product is available in 915 MHz (US) and 868 MHz (EU) versions and has been certified to FCC modular transmitter and R&TTE RF standards respectively.

Utilizing Occamsmart’s proprietary OccamSmart 8-Channel RF Concentrator, the Uplink Protocol Analyzer can intercept LoRa-based and LoRaWAN networks traffic in the 915MHz and 868MHz bands, and utilize the industry standard Wireshark network protocol analyzer’s multiple analysis capabilities. The software runs on Windows-based computers (Windows 8, 10 confirmed) and currently supports both Wireshark 2.2.10 and 2.4.2.

Both products are available at occamsmart.com

About LoRa Alliance

The LoRa Alliance is an open, nonprofit association that has grown to more than 500 members since its inception in March 2015, becoming one of the largest and fastest-growing alliances in the technology sector. Its members closely collaborate and share experiences to promote the LoRaWAN protocol as the leading open global standard for secure, carrier-grade IoT LPWAN connectivity. With the technical flexibility to address a broad range of IoT applications, both static and mobile, and a certification program to guarantee interoperability, the LoRaWAN protocol has already been deployed by major mobile network operators globally, with continuing wide expansion ongoing.
